Join us for a special Benefit Concert/Dance Party featuring the 2018 Boston Blues Challenge winners Soul Box (winner of the Band competition), Erin Harpe (winner of the Solo/Duo competion) and Nolan Leite Experience (the Youth Band).
These winners will represent the Boston Blues Society at the 35th International Blues Challenge in Memphis January 22-26, 2019. Proceeds from this concert will help pay for their trip.
We'll set up tables with plenty of room to dance on the North Shore's best dance floor! Come support your local blues stars and have a blast!
Soul Box is a band with chemistry. All the members lock in together effortlessly and that kind of connection draws the audience in and makes them a part of it. Songs are always evolving and changing during every performance. The Band just lets what happens happen. Drawing from influences of Blues, Funk, Soul, Rock, and Reggae. Soul Box creates a sound that is simultaneously new and classic.
Erin Harpe has been called "one of the most dynamic, talented and exciting roots rocking blues women on the scene" by Living Blues Magazine. Winner of the 2018 Boston Blues Challenge, and nominated for 2018 "Blues Artist of the Year" by the Boston Music Awards, Erin is having an exciting year. Brought up on delta and piedmont blues, which she learned from her dad, Erin recently entered and won the Boston Blues Challenge playing solo. She'll be headed off to Memphis in January to represent Boston at the 2019 International Blues Challenge! On top of that, Erin Harpe & the Delta Swingers were nominated for Blues Artist of the Year this year alongside local greats and friends James Montgomery, Peter Parcek and Danielle Miraglia among others!
The Nolan Leite Experience is an upcoming blues band from Rhode Island. Young guitarist Nolan Leite plays alongside Eric and Ronnie Robidoux, who accompany Nolan on the bass and drums. Their sound can be described as modern blues, with heavy guitar riffs while sticking to original blues progressions. The three met while participating in a School of Rock program where they were paired together to make a three song demo CD. Sensing a strong connection, Nolan later invited the brothers to help him start the band. They have been together for over a year, playing at venues all across New England.
About 17 miles north of Boston, award-winning 9 Wallis is a gorgeous, fully restored, historic location conveniently situated in the heart of Downtown Beverly's Arts District at 9 Wallis Street, right next to the Larcom Theatre -- less than half a mile from the Beverly Depot rail station and 3 miles from Route 128, with plenty of nearby parking (see map).
In April 2017, after 4 years of presenting over a hundred shows at Beverly's Larcom Theatre (featuring Grammy-winners, Rock & Roll Hall of Famers and platinum recording artist), gimmeLIVE's owners Peter and Vickie Van Ness, transformed 9 Wallis into the most intimate, elegant, fully air conditioned listening room north of Boston with comfortable seating at tables, plus food & beverage service offering fine wines, local craft beers, specialty cocktails (featuring local distilleries and all-natural juices) and top-shelf spirits.
In August 2018, Peter and Vickie were presented with the Boston Blues Society's Keeping the Blues Alive Award for their work at 9 Wallis.
Because of its beautifully restored, tremendously flexible space with the best dance floor on Boston's North Shore, 9 Wallis has become a favorite venue for fundraisers, private parties and corporate events. Local charities have raised thousands of dollars at 9 Wallis (see examples). With world-class entertainment, an event can begin as a cocktail party or fully seated dinner...then transform into a nightclub-style dance party with concert quality sound and stage lighting.
There is plenty of nearby parking at 7 lots from 150 feet away to 3 blocks away. Lots are 25 Cents/Hour (see map). Street parking is more. All parking is FREE after 8pm and on Sundays.
